The Cicada – the tiny insect who produces the huge sound of desert summer. When temperatures rise and the buzzing begins, desert dwellers begin to dream of the arrival of the summer rains. This cicada ring is wearable art, a true conversation starter for discussions of the rain, the land, and the people who love them.
This species is a Tucson local, the Apache cicada (Diceroprocta apache), collected as a dead specimen from a friends garden. The specimen was then molded and cast in sterling silver by artist Spring Winders in small batches at the Heliotrope studio in Barrio Viejo, Tucson Arizona. Heliotrope is a small, woman-owned business.
