The one and only Fig Beetle is a true emerald beauty on wings. When the skies and trees fill with Fig Beetles, summer has truly arrived with them. With their stunning metallic green shell (cuticle), this is a bug that begs to become jewelry.

Artist Spring Winders collected a dead specimen from just outside the Heliotrope Studio in Barrio Viejo, Tucson, Arizona, then brought it inside to create a mold, careful to preserve the delicate wings. Incredible detail has been preserved in the metal casting process – it must be seen to be believed. Always cast in small batches, all solid metal (no plating), by Heliotrope, a woman-owned small business.

The Fig Beetle (Cotinis mutabilis) is a scarab beetle with many names – figeater, June bug, mayate – and a wide range: the Southwestern United States, most of Mexico, and northern South America. Kids love to catch them, and as jewelry they’ll catch everyone’s eye.

Please read our reviews! there's a lot of cheap junk out there being sold online as jewelry (especially bolo ties). But those who have held Spring's art in their hands know: Heliotrope is the real deal, and her pieces are true heirlooms-in-the-making. You won't be disappointed.

Cord length options:
- 36" Recommended for people under 6' tall

- 42" Recommended for people 6' tall or taller
