Desert Rat Jaw Earrings

from $65.00

One pair of rat jaw earrings, available in brass ($65) or sterling silver ($85).

These jaws have a story. A friend in southern Arizona has a pair of great horned owls as neighbors. These owls perch on their home and trees regularly, and leave owl pellets all over the land. For those who don’t know, owl pellets are the undigested parts of the bird's food, such as hair or bones, which are regurgitated (coughed up through the beak). There is often a full mouse or rat skull in each owl pellet, along with all the other little bones. So, of course I wanted to dissect an owl pellet to see what treasures I could find, hah! These jawbones are something I found inside. Once I had the original forms, I made molds and cast them in metal.

These jaw pieces are a mirror image match (they are from the same rat, there is a right and a left jaw), so they’re great for symmetrical earrings.

Jaw measures 1” long.
All ear wires are solid sterling silver.
